If you’re a Dynamics professional searching for a Microsoft Dynamics job, you need to make sure you have a comprehensive knowledge of the industry you’re searching for work in. Here’s a list of the five most essential things you need on your Microsoft Dynamics CV when you go looking for a UK Dynamics job this year.
  1. ‘Corfu’ and ‘Rainier’ mean something to you
Having a thorough working knowledge of existing Dynamics NAV, AX and CRM are of course essential if you’re looking for a Dynamics role. However, jobs in the industry are competitive and it’s likely that other candidates will also have that knowledge. Elevate yourself by having a good understanding of the next set of Dynamics products such as ‘Corfu’ and ‘Rainier’, the code names for the next iterations of Dynamics NAV and Dynamics AX respectively. If you're a developer, technical programming knowledge will help you stand out, while if you're in support or consultancy, understanding the big picture view of these new solutions will tell a possible employer that you are always looking to deliver a more streamlined, effective service.
  1. You have a working knowledge of IoT and Machine Learning
The basic premise of the Internet of Things (IoT) is that the world’s infrastructure has not kept pace with changes in technology, IT and consumer lifestyles. The IoT brings people into a more closely networked world, with devices talking to one another and to the user in a seamless fashion. Sophisticated Machine Learning algorithms (powered by Microsoft Azure) then change aspects of the environment to make them function more closely to the user’s/community’s desired behavior. Understand the importance of this approach to technology and you will be in a good stead to get a Dynamics job. As a developer, you will need to bring this approach into your programming, while consultants need to find candidates with the relevant skills and knowledge.
  1. You Watched Convergence
Your CV should demonstrate a keen interest in the Dynamics arena and regardless of whether you're a developer, in support or consultancy, if your CV shows a visible passion for Microsoft Dynamics, you're going to stand out. Convergence is Microsoft’s annual Dynamics conference, this year held in Atlanta. Plenty of Dynamics news, tips and advice came out of the show, and if you can talk about it on your CV, you’re demonstrating a serious knowledge of the industry that many HR and Hiring Managers will respect.
  1. You live your life by ‘Anytime, Anywhere’
One of Microsoft’s key initiatives is to drive all of their products and services towards an ‘anytime, anywhere’ future. New products like Corfu and Rainier will be tablet-first, enabling users to be more mobile, agile and responsive with the platforms. If you're a developer, demonstrate on your CV that you have the programming ability to develop mobile, flexible systems on your CV and you will mark yourself as a forward-thinking developer to any future employer, meaning you’ll be worth their investment. Similarly, if you’re in support or consultancy, it’s essential that you have the ability to think about 'mobile' in the way Microsoft wants, as this will help guide you to the right candidates and the right solutions for your end-users.
  1. Integration, integration, integration…
Finally, Microsoft is moving away from offering standalone products, and towards a world where everything integrates seamlessly. You can see this by looking at the above four points: Rainier and Corfu are products that will integrate much more effortlessly with services like Office 365 and Power BI. Furthermore, the push towards the ‘anytime, anywhere’ future makes these applications accessible to anyone, regardless of the platform they’re operating on. As a developer, it’s essential to understand that integration is a top priority for both Microsoft and most end-users. The same goes for those working in support. If you're a consultant, it's essential that you can locate those support or development candidates that fully demonstrate their ability to practically integrate multiple technologies into one solution, giving your clients the best possible service. Have this on your CV and you’ll be an asset to any Microsoft Dynamics team.
