Regardless of whether you are overflowing in confidence or not, interviews for roles in the Dynamics arena can be challenging if you’re not prepared with answers to the right questions. Here are 10 commonly asked interview questions and some helpful guidance, straight from our experienced consultants.
  1. Describe a typical week in {role applied for}
It’s vital that you relate all relevant past experiences to the role that you’re currently applying for. Ensure you have a standard week plan worked out ahead of your interview so you seem organised, calm and in control.
  1. What are your biggest weaknesses?
In the Dynamics CRM or ERP arena, attention to detail is a core skill. Every developer knows that a misplaced semicolon can lead to ruin. Tell your interviewer that you are a pragmatic perfectionist. Think of an example from a previous job where you stayed late to ensure a task was finished correctly.
  1. What skills make you perfect for this specific project?
Dynamics roles tend to be recruited for individually, or as a cluster of projects. So, it’s always wise to get a handle on what the size, scope and industry the projects that the client is recruiting for. You should then relate this to your past experience. In other words, the employer has a resource problem and you need to explain precisely why you fit the gap.
  1. What makes you a great fit with our team?
While you might expect that a technical industry such as Dynamics CRM implementation or consultation would require a wholly technical interview, they also tend to involve plenty of emotional and soft skills questions, too. You need to project confidence and demonstrate a positive disposition throughout the interview. We offer practice interviews, feedback and advice - giving you the advantage. 1. Why are you looking to leave your current employer?
Your answer here should be handled with caution within an interview situation as you don’t want the potential employer to feel you will encounter similar issues with them in the coming years.
  1. What was your proudest moment in your previous project?
Ideally, you want the answer to this question to combine a mixture of technical and soft skills. For example, you may have resolved an issue with Dynamics CRM unresponsiveness by guiding the colleagues in your team to implement the solution you proposed. Book a practice interview
  1. How is Dynamics CRM/ AX/ GP/ NAV changing?
Ensure that you’re well up to date with current trends in Dynamics CRM and ERP. A good idea would be to look at the last big annual Microsoft Dynamics conference – for example, Envision – and ensure you’re well versed on the main points. Key speakers tend to be very quotable, so remember at least one quote that summarises the direction of the industry for the coming year.
  1. What does the CRM landscape look like at the moment?
Dynamics professionals don’t operate in a vacuum, and neither will a prospective employer. While Dynamics CRM – or ERP solutions – are incredibly popular solutions, the competition is becoming increasingly strong. A couple of popular, although younger, ones are Zoho and HighRise.
  1. Regarding project management, how will you motivate your team?
Regardless of your seniority level, you will always need to be able to up- and down-manage. Demonstrating persuasive or motivational skills here is the best way to go. Provide a concrete example of when you really helped others to achieve a team goal.
  1. How much would you spend on this particular implementation?
Budgets are really only something you’ll have to consider in a senior position, and with seniority comes higher expectations and greater responsibility. To ace this question, come prepared to your interview with a mock project scenario with costing breakdowns. Don’t forget to factor in enough project management time – a common mistake.
